The Bluegrass Parlor Band started in 1982 as the mainchild of the nationally syndicated bluegrass d.j., Tom Henderson. His goal was to provide highly talented bluegrass youths in the cenrtal Florida area an opportunity to play in a professional setting. Alumni of the BGP Band reads like a who’s who of the national bluegrass scene. Aubrey Haynie, Jason Barrie, and David Crow (former International Bluegrass Music Association president) are a few of the notable musicians who have been members of the band. The current band members have matured and are now spread out between Tennessee and Florida, but do get together for reunion shows.
Brothers Cory and Jarrod Walker, now students at Middle Tennessee State University, are highly respected multi-instrumentalists who have performed nationally, and internationally in well-known touring bands and as a duo. As a duo, they have performed at the Grand Ole Opry, Titan Stadium in Nashville, and were featured on ABC and CBS television CMA specials with Keith Urban, Kix Brooks, Earl Scruggs, and Ricky Skaggs. Their latest CD, “New Branches”, recieved significant national radio airplay, and was very warmly reviewed by “Bluegrass Unlimited”.
Cory and Jarrod’s younger brother, Tyler, a Plant City, FL high school sophmore, plays powerful rhythm and lead guitar. He can be heard on “New Branches” as well as Scott Anderson’s newest release, “Tales From the Swamp”.
Austin Wilder, a former Lakeland, Florida resident now living in Tennessee, provides complex but very talented guitar solos that borrow from bluegrass, jazz, and swing styles. Austin also handles the majority of the lead vocal duties with a voice that can easliy reach the highest of tenor pitches.
The Bluegrass Parlor Band is a highly energetic group that plays hard-driving bluegrass, newgrass, and jazz with equal enthusiasm and skill.
